DEIBJ Statement & Land Acknowledgement

At ShadowLight Global, our intention is to create an inclusive and expansive environment that acknowledges, respects and honors the uniqueness of each person’s Whole Person intelligence™  - the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social layers of self.

As part of that intention, we must remember that acknowledging the land is a time-honoured custom of Indigenous people when welcoming outsiders onto their land and into their homes. This active practice honours the authentic history of North America, the original people and tells the story of the creation of this country.  To continue to build respectful relationships, we must acknowledge the land as a key step in our reconciliation:

ShadowLight Global resides in Calgary, Alberta and we desire to fully inhabit the spirit of reconciliation.  We open-heartedly acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We believe that diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice are essential and uncompromising values that must weave through our organization allowing us to recognize, see, hear, and work towards understanding that every individual is a unique embodiment of their whole person. We acknowledge that there is much for us to reflect on and understand what has not worked on systemic levels.

Turning towards with an intention to learn and remain open, will allow us to be intentional about addressing the challenges in a meaningful way as we move forward in service of individuals, teams, organizations, and communities.  We remain steady and firm to our DEIBJ commitment and it is reflected in our hiring practices, workplace culture, and all interactions internally and externally with partners, consultants, contractors, clients, and suppliers of ShadowLight Global.

Diversity: We are committed to hiring and maintaining a diverse team at ShadowLight. We acknowledge and value differences based on race, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, age, class, wealth, education, background, opinions, experience, and other social and economic differences. We believe these differences bring a variety of perspectives, experiences, knowledge, and ideas that help us innovate and solve complex problems.

Equity: We recognize that systemic barriers exist that prevent certain individuals and groups from accessing the same opportunities and resources as others. We are committed to identifying and addressing these barriers within our organization and in the wider community. We work to ensure that all individuals have access to the same opportunities for growth and transformation that recognizes and honours diversity through equity.

Inclusion & Belonging: We believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, understood, valued, and respected in their unique whole person intelligence and diversity within our workplace.   We are creating an environment that is inclusive and welcoming of people from diverse social groups thus inviting and allowing us to transform together to arrive in wholeness that isn’t exclusive but welcoming of the self and whole completely.  By operating from a place of abundance, we create an environment where everyone feels welcome and able to contribute their talents, wisdom, curiosity, and perspectives in a psychological safe and trauma-informed way. We actively work to ensure that everyone feels supported and empowered to succeed in the ways that matter.

Justice: We recognize that social and economic inequalities exist that have a disproportionate impact on individuals and communities. We are committed to advocating for and supporting policies and practices that promote social and economic justice. We work to ensure that our organization is a positive force for change in the workplace and our communities.

Implementation: We regularly assess our progress in implementing this DEIBJ policy and identify areas for improvement.  We recognize that there is a great deal we do not know and will continue to bring a learning mindset by listening, evolving, adapting, and inviting many voices as we welcome our own beginner’s mind. We will provide training, support and/or resources to our team to foster understanding and commitment to our DEIBJ principles as we grow, learn, and evolve together.

At SLG, we are committed to taking the required initiatives and steps that demonstrate our commitment to DEIBJ as this policy becomes our voice for the change that is required and necessary.  We will continue to prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice in all we do and create.  We will work to foster a workplace and community that is supportive and welcoming for all individuals.Type your paragraph here.
